Decolonizing God: Dismantling Abusive Pictures of Divinity

Great news!

We just released another workshop series on our app.

This 5-part series focuses on dismantling abusive pictures of God by looking at how the idea of God has been framed as a power dynamic of submission and domination.

These power dynamics don’t originate in scripture but in empire and political movements that use scripture as another tool to exercise control over a population.

But the real tragedy is what happens when these power dynamics become the primary means to how everyday people see and relate to God.

It turns God into a divine dictator we must obey “or else.”

Preachers, Bible teachers, books, hymns, worship songs, and entire theological systems go on to repeat and reinforce the idea that God is a control freak who is out to get us when we fail to live up to his demands.

But what if none of this is true? What if this picture of God is the very picture Jesus came to free us from?

And what if the truth is infinitely better?

In Decolonizing God, we dismantle these abusive pictures of divinity in search of a healing encounter with Creators heart.
